College Communicators Association (CCA) Conference Code of Conduct

The College Communicators Association (CCA) of Virginia and Washington D.C. is committed to providing a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for all meeting participants, speakers and panelists. All participants, including, but not limited to, attendees, speakers, volunteers, exhibitors, staff members, service providers, and all others are expected to abide by this Conference Code of Conduct. This policy applies to all CCA related events and settings, whether in person or virtual. 

Expected Behavior:

  • Be considerate and respectful to all individuals.

  • Avoid demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behavior, materials, and speech.

  • Speak up if you observe anything that conflicts with this Code of Conduct.  Officers and board members from the CCA are available for assistance. 

  • If you are being harassed or feel uncomfortable, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact an officer and/or board member from the CCA immediately. 

Unacceptable Behavior:

  • Harassment, intimidation, or discrimination in any form

  • Verbal abuse of any kind including verbal comments related to disability, appearance, body size, race, religion, sexual orientation or gender identity.

  • Any screenshots or presentation slides should not be shared without attribution to the author or speaker

  • Comments or actions that minimize a person’s lived experiences, identity, or safety

  • Intentional misgendering or use of “dead” or rejected names

  • Intentional “outing” of any person’s lived experiences or identity without their consent

  • Continuous disruption during presentations

  • Physical contact without consent or after a request to stop

  • Unwanted sexual attention

  • Deliberate intimidation or stalking of any kind – in person or online

  • The gathering or distribution of harassing photography or video recordings

  • Threats or acts of violence

  • Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behavior 

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact an officer and/or board member from the CCA immediately. Contact information will be shared with participants prior to each event. 

The CCA reserves the right to take any action deemed necessary and appropriate, including immediate removal without warning, in response to any incident of unacceptable behavior. The CCA also reserves the right to prohibit attendance at any future meeting or events, virtually or in person.
