      <image:caption>KEYNOTE PANEL: WHAT LIES AHEAD FOR THIS ELECTION YEAR? Wes Bellamy is the author of “Monumental: It Was Never About a Statue.” He also is a City Councilman in Charlottesville, Va., interim chair of the Department of Political Science at Virginia State University, and one of the global thought leaders of the Millennial Generation. He is the youngest individual ever to be elected to Charlottesville City Council. He came into the national spotlight after helping lead the effort to remove statues of Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson from City Parks. He developed a comprehensive plan, the “Equity Package,” which included nearly $4 million in aid for marginalized communities, and pushed it through city council. He is the founder of the Black Millennial Political Convention, which is focused on bringing together African-American millennials from across the country to collectively use their power to create change. He has been featured in the New York Times, Washington Post, USA Today, Huffington Post, and has appeared on CNN, MSNBC, PBS News Hour, NPR, and On One with Angela Rye.</image:caption>

Prior to joining ODU, Karen spent eight years in the public schools as a middle school mathematics teacher and an elementary school administrator. Karen engages in research around aspiring and current school leadership development, creating and sustaining partnerships between universities and school districts, and the development and use of formative assessment practices in schools by leaders and teachers. He has held policy board appointments under two governors, was the legislative director to the assistant majority leader in the Virginia House of Delegates, and was a Governor’s Fellow under then-Virginia Governor Mark R. Warner. James holds a doctorate in law and policy from Northeastern University, a master’s in public policy and management from the University of London, and a bachelor’s in communications from Old Dominion University. Her writing career, which spans more than 30 years, began as a reporter at The Courier News in Bridgewater, New Jersey in 1980.  She subsequently held reporting positions with several newspapers including The Montgomery Journal (Rockville, MD), The Charlotte Observer (Charlotte, NC), The Virginian-Pilot (Norfolk, VA) and The Daily Press (Newport News, VA). In addition, Ms. Lightfoot has written for Education Daily and edited the bi-weekly What Works in Education newsletters, which covered national education issues and initiatives. She won several Virginia Press Assocation awards while working in the Creative Services Department of The Daily Press. In addition, Ms. Lightfoot has won awards from Higher Education Marketing Report for BEHOLD Magazine, Making Waves and the Infinite Possibilities Viewbook. A native of Washington, DC, Ms. Lightfoot holds a Bachelor of Arts in Print Journalism from Howard University and a Master of Business Administration in Marketing from American Intercontinental University. He also currently serves as chair of the New River Valley Regional Commission and chair of the Montgomery Regional Economic Development Commission.   Previously, he served for 20 years as an officer in the U.S. Navy, retiring as a public affairs officer and at the rank of commander.  Some of his assignments included: managing editor of the Navy’s internal communications production branch for the Navy’s Chief of Information (CHINFO); director of public affairs for the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md.; director of congressional information and public affairs at the Navy’s Office of Legislative Affairs (OLA), Washington, D.C.; media relations spokesman in the Office of the Secretary of Defense under Secretaries of Defense Rumsfeld and Gates; director of regional public affairs for Navy Region Northeast, Groton, Ct.; and concurrently, director of public affairs for Navy’s Fleet Week New York City and interim public affairs officer for Commander, Submarine Group TWO.  He has previously served on the Board of Directors of the Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Convention and Visitors Bureau.  He earned a B.S. degree and commission as an officer from the U.S. Naval Academy, is a graduate of the Joint Forces Staff College, National Defense University, Norfolk and earned an M.A. from the U.S. Naval War College, Newport, R.I.       <image:caption>KEYNOTE: THE FUTURE OF HIGHER EDUCATION Alan McKay, Ph.D., is the founding dean of Shenandoah University’s Bernard J. Dunn School of Pharmacy (BJDSOP), where he served for 21 years until his retirement in 2016. While with BJDSOP, he worked with a talented group to create an innovative school of pharmacy that emphasized an integrated teaching model, online, web-based instruction and the extensive use of information technology and has been in the vanguard in pharmacogenomics instruction. The school continues to define the cutting edge in pharmacy and healthcare, preparing graduates for the changes that are now sweeping the healthcare marketplace. Widely viewed by his colleagues as a visionary gifted with the ability to consider and weigh new endeavors with a clear view of their difficulties, he accepted challenge of becoming the Director of the Shenandoah University Design Innovation Center in August 2016. In this role, he was charged by the president and board of trustees with conceptualizing new educational initiatives and creating business plans in intermodal transportation, unmanned automated systems, virtual reality, integrated health care delivery model utilizing remote patient monitoring and a university-based retirement community. In August 2018 his expertise allowed him to step into a new role, as the Executive Dean of the Harry F. Byrd School of Business with responsibilities for strategic planning and partnerships. A native of Atlanta, Georgia, McKay is a former Navy Corpsman. He earned a Bachelor of Science in pharmacy from Mercer University in 1975 and earned a master’s degree and doctorate in health care administration from the University of Mississippi in 1979 and 1980, respectively. He has served on the faculty of Mercer University, the University of Maryland, and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. He and his wife, Terry, reside in Winchester, Virginia and are the proud parents of four remarkable children and eight exceptional grandchildren.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Keynote Panel Brandy Hawkins Boies is the Director of Public Relations at Lord Fairfax Community College, soon to become Laurel Ridge Community College. She has worked at LFCC for over 16 years where she began as the Administrative Assistant to the President before moving into Student Life and then Communications and Public Relations. She holds a bachelor’s degree in management from Radford University and a master’s degree in Education with a concentration in College Student Personnel Administration from James Madison University. During her time in Student Life, she oversaw Outreach efforts where she discovered the need for strategic marketing efforts at the college and the establishment of a consistent brand. In 2016 she wrote a proposal for establishing a marketing department at the college. Her proposal was approved, and she became the Director of Marketing. In this role she worked with the Director of Marketing for Workforce Solutions to establish credit and non-credit program marketing pages on the main college website, and printed collateral. Several other initiatives have been established under her marketing leadership, including a website redesign, a podcast, and The Laureate magazine.</image:caption>

In fall 2021, her work helped the College recruit its largest class in nearly a decade. Prior to coming to Sweet Briar, she served as director of development communications at Cushing Academy in Massachusetts and as publications manager in University Development at Virginia Tech.       <image:caption>Matt Weber is the Chief Creative Officer and Senior Advisor to the president at the University of Virginia, specializing in digital communications and strategy, and has a dual appointment as Lecturer at the University of Virginia School of Education and Human Development. Prior to joining the University of Virginia, Weber spent a decade at the Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE) where he was the Director of Digital Communications Strategy and had a faculty appointment as Preceptor in Education. As a member of the faculty, Weber created and led the “VOICE Program” at HGSE, a yearlong series of workshops, events, and skill building seminars designed to help students explore, develop, and solidify the communications skills critical for professional success in the context of education today. His teaching and research interests are in public narrative, digital storytelling, and online presence/culture for individuals and organizations, having advised numerous new college presidents and university leaders on creative strategies for digital engagement. Weber has published two books with Loyola Press, hosted a national cable TV show, called “The Lens,” and received an Emmy in 2018 for Best Editorialist/Commentator in the Boston/New England chapter. He is a national speaker on digital strategy in education and the intersection of faith and culture, having had his writing featured in The New York Times, SXSWedu, Salesforce World Tour, and CBS News. Weber has an Ed.M. in Technology, Innovation, and Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, in addition to an M.A. in Higher Education Administration from Boston College’s Lynch School of Education. He has a B.A. from Providence College’s liberal arts honors program, having majored in American Studies with a concentration in film. He currently lives in Charlottesville, VA, with his wife and two non-digital children.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Lindsay is an inspired educator with over 15 years experience in the field of dance and over 6 years experience as a professor of dance, instructing undergraduate courses in modern, jazz, improvisation, composition and yoga. Upon completing her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2005 from Radford University, she began her professional performing arts career in Philadelphia. From 2005 to 2012, she held contracts with notable East Coast companies such as Headlong Dance Theatre, Group Motion Multimedia Dance Theatre, Tania Isaac Dance, Idiosyncrazy Productions, Olive Prince Dance, Wally Cardona Dance, Scrap Performance Group and White Box Theatre, as well as independent choreographers such as Susan Rethorst, Silvana Cardell, Jumatatu Poe, Megan Bridge, Brigitta Herman and Sebastian Mundheim. In 2009, Lindsay began her work with The Opera Company of Philadelphia as a featured dancer. In 2010, she traveled to Piacenza, Italy, to work with the Teatro Municipal di Piacenza as choreographer and featured dancer in their progressive production of “Romeo &amp; Juliet.” From 2011 to 2017, after success on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent,” she and magician Michael Grasso traveled the world performing their progressive and mesmerizing illusions both on stage and screen. In 2015, she began her work as a professor to undergraduate dance students at Drexel University in Philadelphia. Since 2015, she has instructed courses in modern, jazz, improvisation and yoga (history and practice). She continues to draw inspiration from her many years in the hustle and beauty of a professional performing arts career and is glad to share her infinite love of movement and creation with Shenandoah’s passionate conservatory students.</image:caption>

In her role at VCOM-Virginia, she works as the primary photographer, social media manager and graphic designer. Prior to VCOM, she worked as a designer for the Liberty University Online Academy and provided freelance design work for companies such as VCU's Metropolitan Educational Research Consortium (MERC) and Functional Movement Systems, a fitness program based in Chatham, Virginia.</image:title>
